A prayer to thank God for his goodness

God is THE FATHER ,
offering us unconditional love,
God is THE MOTHER ,
promising us eternal tender care,
God is THE GIFT ,
giving Himself to us,
God is THE WORD ,
becoming flesh and dwelling amongst us,
God is THE TRUTH ,
bearing witness to Himself,
God is THE REVEALER ,
showing Himself as Love,

God is THE BROTHER , God the Carpenter
sharing our experiences of life,
God is THE BABY ,
so fragile in a manger in Bethlehem,
God is THE CARPENTER ,
leading a normal life in Nazareth,
God is THE BELOVED ,
in whom we find delight,
God is THE CALL ,
announcing a kingdom of love and justice,
God is THE TEACHER ,
stepping on board our boat,

A prayer to thank God for his goodnessGod is THE ALMIGHTY ,
asking for our few loaves to feed all,
God is THE BREAD ,
nourishing us on the way,
God is THE MASTER ,
calling us His friends,
God is THE KING ,
washing our feet when we betray Him,
God is THE ONE ,
bringing unity in loving all of us,
God is THE LAMB ,
challenging us with His surrender,

sharing with us the burden of the Cross,
God is THE CRUCIFIED ,
suffering our ingratitude with love,
God is THE SLAUGHTERED ,
excusing His murderers,
God is THE LOVER ,
loving till it really hurts,
God is THE RISEN ONE ,
overcoming the world,
God is THE DAWN ,
ruling out the darkness of our nights,
God is THE I AM ,
ever-living, always loving,
God is THE MYSTERY ,
sought and adored in many religions,
God is THE PRESENCE ,
wrapping all time and space,
God is THE ABSOLUTE ,
abiding in our heart,
God is THE CREATOR ,
finding delight in us,

looking for the sinner,
God is THE SAVIOUR ,
reaching out His hand to us,
God is THE MERCY ,
lifting us up each time we fall,
God is THE GRACE , conquering our sin,

God the CompanionGod is THE STRENGTH ,
shining forth in our weakness,
God is THE FORGIVER ,
challenging us to love, love and love,
God is THE WAY ,
showing us how to do it,
God is THE POWER ,
enabling us with His trust,
God is THE COMPANION ,
walking beside us, His hands in ours,
God is THE SPIRIT ,
replacing our fear with courage,

God is THE LIVING WATER ,
pouring eternal life in our hearts,
God is THE LIGHT ,
transforming our doubts into guiding hope,
God is THE JOY ,
brightening each day of our life,
God is THE PEACE ,
not given by the world,
God is THE FIRE ,
purifying our heart,
God is THE FRIEND ,
never leaving us alone,

God the RockGod is THE ROCK ,
standing firm when we are weak,
God is THE GIVER ,
asking us to share freely all that we have received,
God is THE FAITHFUL ,
promising everlasting intimacy,
God is THE LORD ,
keeping us in His love,
God is THE ETERNAL ,
whose warm embrace endures forever,
God is THE ALPHA & OMEGA ,
the wish itself of letting Him be our all in all,
To me, GOD IS LOVE ,
transforming our life!

This prayer, inspired by Mother Teresa, was written by Fr Kevin Schembri when he was still in his formation as a seminarian.

Rev. Dr Kevin Schembri is a Maltese diocesan priest. He is a canon law lecturer at the University of Malta and also serves at the Metropolitan Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Malta. He was given the Emerging Scholar Theological Book Award for his book titled 'Oikonomia, Divorce and Remarriage in the Eastern Orthodox Tradition'.
